Cr Jenny Farrar
Yarra City Council
Jenny Farrar became one of the first members of the Australian Greens
to successfully contest public office in Victoria when she was elected
to the City of Yarra in 20021 and again in 20042. She first
represented the former Merri Ward, but following an electoral representation review3, now represents Langridge Ward.
Cr Farrar was the Mayor4 of the City of Yarra in 2007.
Cr Farrar initiated the Asset Management Policy for the City of Yarra and has successfully Chaired the Asset Management Committee since its inception in 2003. Major projects championed by Jenny include the redevelopment of the George Knott Reserve Athletics facility, Clifton Hill Tennis Precinct, Mayors Park Master plan and the Clifton Hill/North Fitzroy Community Bank project, where Jenny currently holds the position of Deputy Chair.
She also held office as Chair of the Planning Committee in 2005 and Chair of Finance and Governance in 2006. As Chair of these committees, Jenny Farrar played a major role in the Yarra's Heritage Review, the review of Council's Municipal Strategic Statement, the development of the Urban Design Framework for the Smith Street Precinct, the review of the City's finances, and the implementation of a community consultation process during the Council's budget development.
Cr Farrar was also the Greens candidate for the seat of McMillan5 in the 2001 Australian Federal Election, attracting 3.6% of the vote.
She is also an industrial organiser with the Media, Entertainment and Arts Alliance.
