Greens join workers at IR rally - but where was Labor?

Greens including lead Senate candidate Richard Di Natale and Melbourne candidate Adam Bandt (pictured left) attended the building unions' anti-WorkChoices rally from Trades Hall to Federation Square today.

About 20,000 workers attended the rally to call for the full repeal of the Howard Government's anti-union WorkChoices legislation.

Greens members handed out thousands of our Protect Your Rights at Work leaflets, which proved a huge hit with unionists.

"The message is certainly getting through to the rank and file that the Greens are the only party that will push to scrap WorkChoices in its entirety," Greens lead Senate candidate Richard Di Natale said.

"The ALP won't abolish all existing AWAs, nor will it guarantee the right of entry to unions in workplaces. These are enshrined under the Greens charter.

"We will certainly be putting pressure on Labor over these important rights in any new Rudd government after the election.

"Labor was conspicuously absent from today's rally. Workers are asking how long they will have to wait for a Labor government to get rid of WorkChoices."

Protect Your Rights at Work leaflets are available for campaigns and branches to hand out at stalls, rallies and events during the campaign. They can be picked up on Level 2 of the Greens office in Little Bourke Street - phone 9602 1141.
