Standing room only at Melbourne Launch28-10-2007 Bob Brown's two standing ovations were an indication of the upbeat mood at the national launch of the Greens federal election campaign at the State Library in Melbourne on Sunday. Senators and candidates flew in from around the country for the event, which was streamed by the ABC as well the Greens on our federal election website. View the video. While highlighting Greens policies in key areas of climate change, forests, the pulp mill, health and education the Greens leader managed a little dig at some prominent opponents, suggesting that Peter Garrett was secretly hurting over his compromised position within the Labor Party. “Come and join the Greens” he offered, extending the invitation to Environment Minister Malcolm Turnbull. It was standing room only as the crowd of more than 200 party members and supporters heard from Senate candidates Kerrie Tucker (ACT), sitting Senator Kerry Nettle (NSW) and our own Richard Di Natale (Vic), who Bob said was likely to win Victoria's first Greens Senate spot. |
