The Victorian Parliament is currently debating a bill to decriminalize abortion, and anti-choice campaigners are getting campaigning hard against it. The Catholic Church recently threatened to close down hospital services for women rather than perform abortions or make referrals. Melbourne city has been covered in anti-choice propaganda.
Anti-choice campaigners are doing everything they can to limit women's right to control their own bodies. They will be attempting to amend the legislation as it passes through Parliament, with mandatory waiting periods, compulsory counseling, parental consent requirements etc. They will be out on the streets this weekend.
Over 80% of people (including 72% of Catholics) believe that women should be able to make their own minds up about what happens to their bodies, their fertility and their lives.
Come out this Saturday to take a stand for women' rights before the bill is debated in the Upper House on 7 October.
Bring wire coathangers to symbolise our refusal to return to backyard abortions.
