Greens announce lead candidates for Moreland Council
17-07-2008 The Australian Greens Victoria are excited to announce Jo Connellan (South ward) and Toby Archer (north east ward) as their lead candidates for the Moreland City Council elections in November 2008.
Ms Connellan was first elected in 2004. She has been involved in a variety of issues on Council, and has been Portfolio Councillor for Sustainable Development for the last two years.
“I am looking forward to a second term if I am elected, and in being involved in some of the emerging projects such as Coburg 2020 and implementing the Aquatics Strategy,’ she said.
“The next four years will be challenging as the Council considers issues such as climate action, water use in what is appearing to be permanently drier conditions, and increasing the level of affordable and social housing to meet the growing housing demand.”
Mr Archer is a policy worker in the community sector and has previously worked as a union organiser and researcher. He is passionate about ensuring residents have access to sustainable transport options.
‘With the price of petrol heading for two dollars and a crisis in obesity, local government needs to take the lead by giving residents more opportunities to leave the car at home. We need to substantially increase council investment in cycling infrastructure to ensure people have the option to ride on safe and well-connected bike paths,’ said Mr Archer.
