Greens announce candidate for Kororoit byelection
11-06- 2008 The Victorian Greens have today announced Marcus Power as their candidate for the Kororoit by-election. Marcus was the endorsed Greens candidate for Kororoit at the 2006 state election.
“There has been a lot of change throughout Kororoit since the 2006 election,” Mr Power said.
“But there still remain many of the same problems we (the Greens) campaigned on at the 2006 election.”
“Residents in Caroline Springs, Deer Park and Kings Park continue to lack adequate public transport options, despite calls for the Melton line to be electrified. This is something that the Greens have been passionately campaigning for and will continue to campaign for.”
“Not only are constituents in Kororoit disadvantaged by a lack of public transport but they're also suffering from a lack of affordable and accessible health care options. The Greens want to see more community health centres so that people don't have to drive to the Sunshine or Werribee hospitals' emergency wards for colds and flus.”
“The Greens will also continue tackling the problem of pokie machines. These machines have a major impact on the lives of those with gambling problems and their families.”
“There are no venues for families to enjoy a night out without being confronted by pokie machines.”
“We'll be working hard in this by-election to give voters a real choice and a real alternative to the same old ways offered by the other parties,” concluded Mr Power.
