Greens support the Brimbank College Principal and Education Union
31-03-2008 Colleen Hartland has praised Brimbank College principal Allen McAuliffe for speaking out in new TV advertisements, launched today by the Australian Education Union.*
"I found Mr McAuliffe's comments to be very dignified and moving", said Colleen Hartland, Greens MLC for Western Metropolitan Region.
"Education is the best way young people in the western suburbs have to improve their future, and to have opportunities that people in the eastern suburbs take for granted. We need the very best teachers. I'm saddened to hear that Brimbank College has lost four of its best teachers in the last year."
"Having the lowest paid teachers in Australia means teachers are going to be tempted away from public education, and towards the eastern suburbs, to the big private schools. It’s a drain of opportunities from the western suburbs."
"I support the Union, I support their wage claim and I support Mr McAuliffe," said Ms Hartland.
