MEDIA ALERT call for independent analysis of causes of lesions in fish before Bay Dredging commences

18-01-2008 WHAT: Recreational and professional fishers, together with Greens and Blue Wedges joining together to call for independent analysis of causes of lesions in fish before Bay Dredging commences.

WHEN: Today - Friday 18 January, 3PM

WHERE: Vancouver Boat Supply, at end of Maddox Road, Williamstown North (Mels 55 F8)

PHOTO OPPORTUNITY: Mouth of Kororoit Creek, beautiful old fishing huts, wetlands

"I'm concerned that these lesions may have been caused by toxic materials from the industry at the mouth of the Yarra. They turned up after the trial dredging. Now we're being advised not to eat the fish. Common sense tells us we need an independent analysis of what's causing the lesions, before we even think about dredging the mouth of the Yarra," said Colleen Hartland

"I support the recreational and commercial fishermen. They know a lot more about the bay than Peter Garrett," said Colleen Hartland
