Bill Pemberton, Eastern Metropolitan Region

Lead Greens Upper House Candidate for the Eastern Metropolitan Region in the 2006 Victorian Election

Bill Pemberton has lived in the eastern suburbs for over thirty years, where he has demonstrated his commitment to communities and a sustainable environment. Previous to his selection as the Greens Lead Candidate for the Eastern Metropolitan Region, Bill was the campaign coordinator of “TrackDown”, a movement which had as its aim the extention of a third rail line from Box Hill to Ringwood while removing level crossings across the City of Whitehorse in the same process. He has also been a long-term activist on environmental issues, particularly through the marine environment group the Surfrider Foundation.

Bill has a Bachelor of Applied Science in Biology, (majoring in Biotechnology) from RMIT, and is currently a self-employed sustainable housing consultant active in the Manningham area where he gives talks on sustainable housing at events organised by the local council. He is someone who practices what he preaches: for the last ten years, he has lived in a low energy, water conserving house in Blackburn.

In the 2004 Federal election, Bill Pemberton ran in the marginal seat of Deakin, and has held several positions of responsibility in the Victorian Greens' decision-making structure over the last few years Bill brings a straightforward, common sense approach to government and is strongly committed to the ideal of a democratic, participatory society where the needs of all are respected.

He has travelled and worked in a number of areas, and is able to put issues into perspective while remaining open to different approaches to tackling issues. In addition to his interest in the environment, Bill aims to focus on:

  • Accountable and ethical government
  • Sustainable housing
  • Effective and compassionate mental health services
  • Removal of logging in our water catchments
  • Water and energy efficiency
  • Promoting small businesses and the end of old growth logging
  • Public transport

Bill Pemberton is the Victorian Greens' spokesperson for Transport & Planning Integration and Energy.
