Glenn Osboldstone, Northern Metropolitan Region

Greens Upper House Candidate for the Northern Metropolitan Region in the 2006 Victorian Election

Glenn-Osboldstone.jpgGlenn Osboldstone holds an Honours Degree in Law from Monash University and an Honours Degree in Science from Melbourne University. Glenn commenced his legal career with Slater and Gordon in 1996 before moving into the community sector with the Consumer Law Centre. After some years there he joined the Office of the Chief Parliamentary Counsel as a drafter and in 2004 moved to Worksafe Victoria where he is currently Principal Legislation Officer. At his current job Glenn enjoys being at the cutting edge of policy and legislative development in Occupational Health and Safety law and appreciates the importance of his work and how it impacts on the lives of all workers in the state.

In addition to his membership to the Greens, Glenn has been actively involved for many years in the campaign to protect Victoria’s remaining old growth and high conservation value forests and currently holds the unpaid position of Vice President of Lawyers for Forests. Glenn is also a Director of the Legal Services Bulletin Collective which publishes the Alternative Law Journal quarterly.

Although Glenn has a very broad range of policy interests, for this election he is particularly focussing on:

  • facilitating the cessation of woodchipping and industrial scale logging in our native forests and the complete protection of all remaining high conservation forests, including those protecting our vital water catchments;
  • strengthening the laws governing planning processes so that all new residential, industrial and office developments and major refurbishments are mandated to be at least 5 star energy and water efficient;
  • ending subsidies for polluting industries and supporting cutting edge “green” industries;
  • encouraging greater collaboration among the states to overcome the radically regressive policies of the current federal government on issues such as climate change and energy, refugees, industrial relations and media ownership; and
  • increasing funding for bicycle lanes and away from building new roads and seeking to reduce the number of polluting, energy intensive vehicles on city streets.
