Judy Cameron, Western Victoria Region

Greens Upper House Candidate for the Western Victoria Region in the 2006 Victorian Election

Judy Cameron has lived in Geelong and Western Victoria most of her life. Now a grandmother, she is concerned at the direction society is taking and the affect humans are having on our tiny planet earth. This is her motivation for working with the Greens to find ways politically, through a grass roots party, for change.

She sees the following as the top priorities for Victoria:

  • Transparency in government, as it should be in a democracy,
and an end to Public Private Partnerships.

  • Restoring public education as a free, secular and properly
funded system - a key to a just, cohesive society. This should include one year of free preschool.

  • Public ownership of water with overall management of use,
reuse and environmental river flows with conservation a high priority for all users. This includes stopping logging and mining in all water-supply catchment areas.

  • Immediate steps to be taken to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
and pollution as set out in The Greens energy policy.

Judy studied Textile Chemistry, and worked with the Australian Wool Board, General Motors Acceptance Corporation, Target Australia and Telstra until her retirement from full-time work. She was a full-time mother to her 3 children until the youngest went to school. Judy is a committee member of Geelong Organic Gardeners Inc and is passionate about locally grown food, especially that in her own garden!

The Western Victoria Region covers an area from Horsham, Stawell, Maryborough and Kyneton in the north to the south-west coast in the south, and from the South Australian border in the west to Bacchus Marsh, Geelong and Queenscliff in the east.
