Priya Carey, Northern Metropolitan Region

Greens Upper House Candidate for the Northern Metropolitan Region in the 2006 Victorian Election

Priya-Carey.jpgPriya Carey has been a member of the Greens since 1999. She lives in North Fitzroy with her husband and the two youngest of her four sons.

After working in the public service and as a union organiser, Priya returned to study, completing a law degree in 2005. She now works at a city law firm.

Priya sees the following activities as priorities for Victoria:

  • Legislating to reduce greenhouse emissions and promote sustainability.

  • Supporting work/life balance for parents of young children.

  • Improving public sector education.

  • Providing cheap, convenient public transport.

  • Funding accessible, reliable public health care.

  • Providing ethical leadership and accountability in government.

  • Promoting social diversity and cohesion.

Historically, the Greens have provided intellectual leadership to the other parties on these issues, especially on the need for sustainability in industry, agriculture and domestic life. The risks associated with climate change are now becoming widely known. The logical next step is to elect candidates who can put environmental wisdom into practice.
