Sue Pennicuik, Southern Metropolitan Region
Lead Greens Upper House Candidate for the Southern Metropolitan Region in the 2006 Victorian Election
|
Sue Pennicuik has lived in the southern suburbs of Melbourne since 1989. She has been active in community environment and heritage issues for many years and is a founding member of the Greens Port Phillip branch. “I joined the Greens ten years ago because the principles and policies reflect my values and ideals - the only party that thinks long term and has workable policies for a better future. I am constantly angered and frustrated by the short-sighted decisions taken by our state and federal governments. Their priorities are not right.” |
|
“If elected to parliament, I will work for:
-
open and accessible government
-
increased investment in community and preventative health programs
-
revitalising our public education system
-
the welfare of vulnerable children and families
-
a safe, reliable and expanded public transport system
-
protecting Victorian workers from the Work Choices legislation
-
an urgent increase in energy efficiency and renewables
-
free range livestock production methods
-
an end to logging in old growth forests and water catchments
-
more habitat protection for indigenous plants and animals
-
the protection and restoration river, streams and coastal areas
-
alternatives to channel deepening in Port Phillip Bay.”
A former secondary teacher, Sue has also worked as a fitness instructor, caravan park manager, environment officer for a large union and was the Occupational Health and Safety Coordinator for the ACTU for seven years, where she led OHS campaigns on stress and bullying at work, safer working hours and banning asbestos. Sue currently works as a Project Officer for the Australian Drug Foundation.
Sue studied Arts and Applied Science and has a Masters degree in Environmental Science from Monash University. She is the Victorian Greens' spokesperson on Industrial Relations, Ports & Freight (including channel deepening), GLBTI, and Arts and Heritage.
