Hiroshima Day Rally

Hiroshima Day Rally

On 6 August 2006 Melbourne commemorated Hiroshima Day with a peace rally in the city. The Greens oppose nuclear proliferation in all of its forms, and oppose all wars. The rally protested against the nuclear industry and condemned numerous acts of war that are currently taking place in the world, with a major focus on Lebanon and Iraq. It demanded peaceful resolution to these conflicts and the end to the nuclear industry. The Greens were disappointed to find that someone used the rally to stage a personal protest against the state of Israel by burning an Israeli flag. The Greens were not associated with and do not condone this conduct. It was divisive, potentially racist, contrary to the purposes of the rally and contrary to the values of the Greens.
